I experiment with growing in a water solution.
You just need some scrap onions and place them in solution water, plain water doesn’t have nutrients and the PH is around 7.5 I will avoid tap water.
Dyna Grow works pretty well too either one of them should work.
Cut the onions, leave the roots and place them in nutrients in a week you will get your money back. Not only that but the onions will still grow as long you feed them nutrients.
After you see small roots shooting these are oxygen roots, do not cover them with water or the plant will die.
